Lana Del Rey's real name unearthed as singer reveals why she chose stage title (2024)

LANA Del Rey has had many stage name changes throughout her career.

Since her introduction to music, the star has gone a long way from releasing nine albums to headlining major music festivals.

Lana's birthname is Elizabeth Woolridge Grant and she was born on June 21, 1985, in Manhattan, New York.

From 2005 to 2008, Lana, 38, recorded two unreleased EPs under the name Lizzy Grant: Young Like Me and Kill Kill.

However, in 2006, she briefly used the name May Jailer to record another unreleased album, Sirens, which leaked online in 2012.

Lana also used the stage name Sparkle Jump Rope Queen, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

In 2010, the Summertime Sadness singer released her album Lana Del Ray A.K.A Lizzy Grant but later changed the letter A to E, making her Lana Del Rey.

'IT SOUNDED BEAUTIFUL TO ME'

She revealed in a 2012 interview with MTV that she and her sister Caroline's travels to Miami and Cuba inspired her for the name change.

"I knew that I wanted a name that sounded sort of exotic and reminded me of the seaside on the Floridian coast," she revealed at the time.

"Lana Del Rey sounded beautiful to me and I wanted a name for the music that I could start shaping the music towards, just something beautiful."

In another interview with British Vogue in 2011, she said, "Lana Del Rey reminded us of the glamour of the seaside. It sounded gorgeous coming off the tip of the tongue."

The San Diego Union-Tribune also reported that Lana found inspiration for her first name from Dr. Jeckell and Mr. Hyde actress Lana Turner and Del Rey is reportedly inspired by the Brazil-produced car Ford Del Rey.

Del Rey is also the name of a city in California.

Lana released her first studio album, Born To Die, on January 30, 2012, which includes songs like Born To Die, National Anthem, and Summertime Sadness.

Later that year in November, she released her second album Paradise, which has Gods & Monsters on it, and was featured in the hit show, American Horror Story.

On January 1, 2014, she released Ultraviolence with songs including Shades Of Cool, Brooklyn Baby, West Coast, and Pretty When You Cry.

More albums from the star include Honeymoon (2015), Lust For Life (2017), Norman F***ing Rockwell (2019), Chemtrails Over The Country Club (2019), and Blue Banisters (2021).

Her most recent album is Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, which was released on March 24, 2023.

COACHELLA STAR

On January 16, it was revealed that Lana would headline the major music festival, Coachella, on April 12 and 19.

During Weekend One, she had many of her hit songs on the setlist including the Sublime cover of Doin' Time, Ride, Cherry, and Video Games.

She opened up her concert by riding into the campground on motorcycles while wearing a sparkly blue dress.

To surprise the fans, she brought out two special guests during her set: John Batiste and Billie Eilish.

John and Lana sang their collaboration, Candy Necklace.
