  • It's like tzatziki but wayyyyy easier to make. Because you don't have to grate the cucumbers and then let them sit with salt to draw out the water, and then remove the excess water, and then add them to the sauce. This yogurt sauce is a breeze compared to tzatziki. It has all the same flavors of tzatziki but takes a fraction of the time to make!
  • It adds a little something extra to your favorite dishes! Whether it's falafel burgers, Greek turkey burgers, chickpea gyros, or Mediterranean potato wedges - this sauce is going to take your most popular meals to the next level.
  • It's a healthy alternative to ranch dressing. As most kids do, my toddler has discovered a fond love for ranch dressing. But if I call this yogurt sauce "ranch", I can get her to eat this sauce with her carrots and cucumbers! It's got a bit more of a tang that classic ranch dressing but it has a very similar look and texture - and the best part is that you know exactly what's in it!

Tips

  • Don't use fat free yogurt in this recipe! This recipe doesn't have any fat in it, so using full fat Greek yogurt or sour cream is very necessary. The fat in the yogurt is also going to balance out the acid from the lemon juice.
  • To make this sauce a little richer and creamier, feel free to add a couple tablespoons of olive oil. I like a nice tangy sauce but the addition of olive oil is going to give this sauce a bit more of a velvety texture and mellow out the tang a bit.
  • To make this sauce vegan, just use vegan yogurt or sour cream! Again, try to find a brand that is NOT fat free or low fat. Fat = flavor. And we want all the flavor we can get with this simple sauce!
  • This sauce can be stored in the fridge for up to a week. It will begin to separate as it sits. Before serving each time, give it a quick stir and season to taste with salt!

Yes! Dried dill has a much more concentrated flavor than fresh dill so I'd recommend using about half the amount called for in the recipe and then adding more to taste.

This is a perfect, simple sauce recipe. It goes well with pretty much any fresh style wrap. Sometimes I add 2 tsp of dill pickle juice for a little extra vavoom.

Great idea, Chris! I've never thought to add pickle juice!!!

Can this be used in a salad dressing and does this taste similar to dill pickle salad dressing?

    • Kylie

Great question, David! It is more similar to a tzatziki sauce but without the cucumber - I wouldn't recommend using it as a dill pickle salad dressing.

I stumbled upon your recipe while looking for ways to use some of the fresh dill from my garden. This was simple, quick and yummy! I did add a clove of garlic for an extra punch. It was a family favorite. My daughter even used it as a dip for her chicken wings and thought it was fab!

Can’t wait to make this and wondering if it’s ok to add a small bit of grated cucumber.

Yes! That's a great idea and would be very delicious! You may want to sprinkle the grated cucumber with salt and it sit on paper towels for a few minutes to "sweat out" the moisture. Otherwise, your sauce may become a bit watery as the cucumber releases its natural moisture into the sauce.
