We Hope the Cliffhangers in 'Jailbirds' Means There's an Upcoming Season 2 (2024)

Considering the immediate success of the problematic but gripping docuseries that is Netflix's new Jailbirds, it's no surprise that fans are clamoring for more.

"Netflix really just ended Jailbirds first season like that....when is Season 2 before I get locked up and go see for myself?" wondered one fan on Twitter.

So will there be a Season 2 of Jailbirds? If so, when will it come out? Keep reading for everything we know.

Will there be a Season 2 of Jailbirds?

While it's too early to tell for sure whether Jailbirds will be renewed for a second season, it sure seems promising for the cast of inmates at the Sacramento County Jail. "OK when is Season 2 coming out of Jailbirds ? I’m hooked," wrote one hooked viewer on Twitter.

"I need Season 2 for all these cliff hangers!" added another, while one other fan wrote, "Why am I obsessed with Jailbirds on Netflix? Season 2 needs to happen. I need updates."

It's true that Season 1 left us with many questions and many loose ends, and we can't wait to see how they'd do it up for a reprise.

Jailbirds' production company, 44 Blue, who is also responsible for the critically acclaimed Wahlburgers, have kept mum about whether they're bringing back the inmates for a second season, but we do hope it comes out in the next year if it does happen.

What will Season 2 of Jailbirds be about?

Where do we begin when it comes to unpacking all of the questions we have about the debut season of Jailbirds?! It follows the real lives of female inmates, their interpersonal drama, fights, romances, and how they communicate with male inmates through the toilet.

No, we're not kidding. And if you want to see what we're talking about, you should definitely give Season 1 a quick binge. The show, although problematic and borderline exploitative, shows the humanity of its subjects while also unpacking the riveting drama that goes down behind bars.

The season ended with Tayler and A1 breaking up, and Tayler calling him just a friend by the end of the final episode. The finale also revealed that A1's domestic abuse charges were filed against him by Megan "Monster" Hawkins, a heavily tatted blonde with a split tongue, who got out of jail by the end of the show, but ended up back behind bars just last week.

Considering A1 will be serving five years and Monster is heading back to jail, there might be more to unpack with regards to their interpersonal drama in an upcoming season. It'll probably also take us further into Tayler's backstory, as we see her receive seven years of jail time after a heated trial.

Baby Girl will likely be front and center in Season 2.

If Jailbirds does get greenlit for a second season, we're pretty positive that one inmate in particular will be front and center. Of course, we're talking about Rebecca "Baby Girl" Temme, who ended the season with a surprising twist.

After spending the entire season (when she wasn't in AdSeg) talking about how wonderful her younger sister Shayna was, she completely flipped in the final moments and told the camera straight-on how she planned on beating up her longtime friend because she'd been talking on the toilet bowl to Baby Girl's co-defendent.

What?! Baby Girl's "co-d," as they call him, is the man she left her wife to date — and who she ultimately teamed up to murder her with. It's a lot. But the craziest part is that Shayna is also married, so we have no idea what that will mean for their sisterhood, but it's bound to be a ton of drama.

We expect Season 2 will also dive into the marriage of Bianca and Brianna, who got married in Jail in the Season 1 finale. We adore this couple, but Bianca revealed that she was signing up for classes to prepare for life out of jail, which Brianna wasn't expecting.

How will they navigate their impending separation now that they're married? We agree with the rest of the fans in that we cannot wait for Season 2.
